Before & After – Tsukamaki Restoration 9

This tsuka was from one of our swords way back 2008 – 2009 (first forge). We believe this was the “Aka Ume Katana”. Originally, the color of the tsukaito was red, but it faded and became pink! LOL! So our good friend Chito Luna had it re-wrapped. We also replaced the original dragon menuki with a sakura menuki to compliment the fittings.

Here are the “After” photos.

We had to re-lacquer the black samegawa because the original lacquer looked dull and some parts were faded. Here you’ll see the black lacquer is glistening.

The tsuka now mounted on the blade. This is a custom tsuba made of solid brass with a sakura theme.
