Koban Bamboo Shinai
The difference of this type of shinai with the standard shinai is the shape of the tsuka. “Koban” is an old Japanese money and its shape is oval. The Koban Bamboo Shinai has an oval tsuka while the standard shinai has a round tsuka. With an oval tsuka, this gives you the grip of a “katana” giving you better cuts as the angle of the blade tends to be correct.
