Description
This armor has been made in honor of Shimazu Yoshihiro of the Shimazu clan who was said to have fought in 52 battles over the course of his life and was a strong and able leader. In 1572, Yoshihiro led 300 men and defeated Itô Yoshisuke’s 3,000 in what is sometimes called the “Okehazama of Kyushu”. Over the next 10 years he would continue lead and fight with his men in victory after victory until he was named daimyô following the submission of the Shimazu to Hideyoshi in 1587. He led 10,000 men in the First Korean Campaign (1592-93).
The horns on the kabuto (helmet) are made of real, natural buffalo horns and pieces may vary in shape and size.
This armor is an authentic reproduction made of iron, steel, leather, cotton, silk and other materials that were traditionally used during the Warring States Period of Japan. This is a real, life size armor which an average adult (with a height of 5′ 3″ – 5′ 9″ ) can wear and is fully functional. The clamshell dō features a pin hinge under the left armpit which can be removed and a cord can be laced through the hinges to accommodate a larger chest.
